And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; Ephesian 6:17 (NKJV)
You are responsible for the effects of any words you speak. Your words can either build or destroy. How are you using your words? Is it to build or to destroy? The word of God is described as “sword of the Spirit” which can be used in three ways: as a deterrent, an offensive or defensive mechanism.
The writer of Hebrew (4:12) describes the qualities of the word as, living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart.
Any living organism brings changes. Like babies who begin to move about. Any parent will tell you how they had to make changes to their environment to allow the “living and active” child it’s freedom and safety. When you speak the word in any situation, similar changes begin to happen. These can be immediate or become evident with time. The word is sharper than any cutting or penetrating instrument and is able to smoothen any “rough” edges to your life or situation. The word makes way into ones emotions cultivating the appropriate responses needed to pursue purpose.
The word created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:3). The word opened the Red sea (Exodus 14). It made Peter walk on waters (Matthew 14:29), and enabled him catch a great harvest having failed to catch any fish after an all night fishing expedition (Luke 5:4). The word healed the centurions servant (Matthew 8:8,13)
Do you know the word as wisdom that operates to regulate your destiny? It is time to study and meditate on the word. It is time to believe in the word received and to apply it to bring change. It is time to believe in the power of the spoken word. It is time to expect changes that will continue to propel you in your journey of life. Amen
