Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses
1 Timothy 6:12
It sounds strange to christians when asked to fight a good fight as their thoughts fall on physical tactics. Our lives are however punctuated with fights. These are major e.g. David overcoming Goliath and the woman with the issue of blood being healed. One fights for one’s family, position in society, maintain a job or good health. Nations on the other hand fight for lands or natural resources.
As children of God, we are in this world but not of this world. We know the enemy uses force to take things that do not belong to him (Matthew 11:12) Not withstanding, we are to put on the whole armour of God to protect ourselves from the devil and his evil schemes (Ephesians 6:11). To this end, the weapons we use in fighting are not of this world but are powered by God and are effective at tearing down the strongholds erected against His truth (2 Corinthians 10:4) Fight as an acronym is Faith In God’s Holy Truths. Let us examine some examples
David had faith in God’s Holy Truth when he declared to Goliath, You come to me carrying a sword and spear and javelin as your weapons, but I come armed with the name of the Eternal One, the Commander of heavenly armies, the True God…..(1 Samuel 17:45). He won the fight. Meanwhile the regular army hid in their tents.
Elisha having Faith in God’s Holy Truth declared abundance in the face of extreme scarcity. The king’s officer, looking at the physical doubted saying, “Even if the Eternal carved out windows in heaven, this will not be possible. The abundance happened, the king’s officer saw it but did not enjoy with the people (2 Kings 7)
The woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-30) spent all her money fighting her disease till she realised she needed a different weapon, which is God’s Holy Truth. She meditated, if I could but touch the hem of his garment I will be healed. She touched and was healed immediately.
Whatever you are battling with, answers can be found in His truths. For there is nothing new under the sun.
Like David, declare the truth. Like Elijah, believe the truth. Like the woman with the issue of blood, meditate on the truth. Fight the good fight of faith and you will overcome the battle. The Holy Truth you know will set you free. Act on the God’s Holy Truth and be free. Amen
