Life can be intriguing when choices have to be made about duties and destinies, especially as we may have been shaped by culture, traditions, the laws of the land or by public opinion. How many of these influences your decision-making process?
Duty is defined as work that you are obliged to perform for moral or legal reasons (hyperdictionary), however, our Maker declares, He knew us before we were formed in our mothers’ womb (Psalm 139) and has plans (duties) for us (Jeremiah 29:11). He further informs us, he gives children as gifts to families (Psalm 127:3). The question then arises, do parents or society know of the plans(duties) the Maker has for children? Do you know the Maker’s plans for you and hence your duty on earth?
D.U.T.Y as an acronym is Deliver the Unadulterated Truths of Yahweh. Is this how parent, traditions, society or the law direct children who have become adults with a duty to perform? Is this what we have led ourselves into? Are we carrying out duties as determined by others? If our answers are yes, then we need to reexamine our position in light of Solomon’s conclusion regarding the duties of humankind, which is, “Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. (Ecclesiastes 12:13)You have been chosen and destined by God the Father who also has made you holy by the Spirit, that you may be obedient to Christ Jesus.
Obedience is key to performing your duty. He further emphasised this point when He declared, If you are willing and obedient to your D.U.T.Y you will eat the best of the land (Isaiah 1:19 paraphrased). You must be willing to perform your duties wherever you are placed. Whatever profession or workplace, you are to deliver the unadulterated truths of Yahweh because He has given you the power to carry it out. He has given you the measure of faith to carry out His will. Never think this is only for those behind the pulpit. No, it is for all made in the image of God. Abraham, Moses, Boas, Esther, Deborah, Mary, Martha, Paul, Timothy, all these delivered the unadulterated truths of Yahweh.
Be encouraged as He has chosen you. Be encouraged as He has a good plan for you. Be encouraged as He has empowered you to carry out His plans. Do not look at any duty as small or too big for He always ensures the completion of His projects. Be sure to declare and deliver the truths of Yahweh. Amen.
