Joshua’s clothes were filthy. The angel said…., “Take off those dirty clothes.” Then the angel said to Joshua, “Look, I have taken away your sin from you, and I am giving you beautiful, fine clothes.” Zechariah 3:3-4
Clothes are significant as they cover your nakedness and also give you identity. Clothes identify your origin, position, authority and function. When you enter a restaurant you will know who the waiter or chef is by their clothe. Similarly, at a courtroom, you can identify the judge or solicitors by their clothe. However, there is a CLOTHE, when worn supersedes all other authority which hitherto had been conferred by society. This clothe is Christ’s Love that Overturns all Troubles Here on Earth.
What clothe are you wearing? Do you have this CLOTHE? If you do, do you wear it on a daily basis and do you acknowledge the authority it bestows on you? If not, it will be important that you recognise the CLOTHE and the authority it gives. Let us look at some examples of people whose clothes were changed and had authority bestowed on them:
First, the scripture above talks about Joshua clothe in filthy rags and could not lead the life expected of him. A command was given to change his clothes and hence regain his authority, which includes being a judge and having the promises of the Lord (Zechariah 3)
Second, Joseph wore prison clothes which were changed by the king (Genesis 41:42). With this change in clothing he exerted a new authority that saved the world from starvation.
Third, Mordecai sat at the gate of the king with “filthy clothes” but the king changed his clothes empowering him to reverse a law against the people of God (Esther 6:7-10).
In these three scenarios, we see the love of the Lord overturning the troubles on this earth by empowering Joshua, Joseph and Mordecai with changes to their clothes. Are you exerting the authority which Christ gives you? If not be encouraged as Christ stated, “if God clothes the wild grass, which is here today and tomorrow is tossed into the fire to heat the oven, won’t he clothe you even more, you people of little faith? (Matthew 6:30). Have faith as you need this to enjoy the richness of the CLOTHE.
Can you identify your clothe? Do you feel overwhelmed by the problems of this world? If you do and have a filthy garment, seek for a change by asking Christ into your life. If you have Christ as your Lord and Saviour and still feel overwhelmed then seek to wear your clothe on a daily basis. By doing so in faith, believing that His love will overturn the challenges, be assured that love is the greatest and love never fails. The purity of His love dissolves all diseases. Like Joshua, Joseph and Mordecai, as you clothe yourself may you experience His authority and promises in your life. Amen
