And now I entrust you to God and to the message of his grace. This message is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

Acts 20:32

People build different things for different purposes. You may build a house, financial portfolio, family, relationship with Christ, network of likeminded people whilst others build kingdoms and empires. To build is to put parts or material together over a period, place on a foundation, strengthen or increase. What are you building? Are you building by Bringing Up In the Lord’s Directives? The psalmist warns “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it” (Psalm 127:1a) Let us take a cue from self directed building and their outcome: Abraham and Sarah desired to raise Ishmael conceived by their plan but God’s plan was for Isaac to be heir so Ishmael was sent away. (Genesis 21:12)

Moses, desired to deliver the Jews by killing the Egyptian soldier. He had to go into exile for 40 years till the time appointed of the Lord to execute the deliverance. (Exodus 3:9-10). David desired to build a temple for God but could not and God allowed Solomon to build it (1 Kings 8:16-20). Our desires without God end in vain. We must learn from Abraham of who “By faith dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God” (Hebrews 11:9-10, NKJV).

Therefore, with faith and patience, let us walk with God in every building project, be it family, business, financial portfolio, faith or dreams in establishing the foundation. Peter describes as such buildings as inheritances that can never perish, spoil or fade. (1Peter 1:4). Seek therefore to Bring Up In the Lord’s Directives. Amen
