For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods Ex 7:12 (KJV)
When we talk about rod, we see an instrument of punishment. Others however see a sceptre of authority or a measuring instrument. R.O.D as an acronym is righteousness over desires. The rod of God in Moses’ hand, swallowed the magicians rods, started or ended the ten plagues. The rod parted the red sea (Numbers 14:16) and was used to bring water out of the rock (Numbers 20:11).
Solomon stated, the rod of discipline will drive folly far away from a child. (Proverbs 22:15b) This rod is not for physical chastisement rather for instilling righteous desires in the growing child who when faced with options is able to make the right choice i.e. righteousness over desires. When righteousness is not instilled in the child, the child has no alternative in making choices but his/her desires. Similarly, adults have desires but must chose righteously when faced with making choices.
The rod of God is also a symbol of authority. When the authority of Aaron was challenged by the tribes of Israel, Moses was instructed to collect the rods of the elders and to keep in the tabernacle overnight. The rod which budded confirmed the one with God’s authority. Aarons rod budded, blossomed and bore fruits whilst the others remained dry (Numbers 17).
His rod also comforts and guides us (Psalm 23:4) when we have difficulties.
Our righteousness in comparison with the Lords’ is described as filthy rag (Isaiah 64.6). However the righteousness of God through faith in Christ (Roman 3:22) gives access to the throne of grace where we obtain mercy and find grace to help in times of need (Hebrews 4:16).
In principle seeking righteousness above desires, moves you into faith. This righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ makes impossible situations possible and the unseen to be manifested.
The rod of God in your hand has power over His creation. It is a sign of your authority, an enabler of making right decisions and performing signs and wonders.
So pick up your rod today and begin to exercise your authority and experience His wonders. Amen
